Steve Devine & Jack Newman: Asking for help is the hardest thing a man will do

Ember

Former All Black Steve Devine spent two years bedridden with migraines after multiple concussions ended his rugby career. Jack Newman got to 142 kilos, hadn't exercised since 2015, and in 2014 came dangerously close to ending his life - a moment he didn't talk about for nine years.

Both are now Movember ambassadors, speaking openly about the hardest thing men struggle with: asking for help. Steve talks about battling trauma from his firefighting career and learning that if he expects his kids to be vulnerable, he has to model it first. Jack shares how his dad's cancer diagnosis became the wake-up call to transform his health through ultra running.

Steve focuses daily on two things - health and happiness. Jack's learned to forgive himself when he slips up. Both found that movement helps more than anything else, and that side-by-side conversations with their sons work better than sitting down face-to-face.
